Despite the justice literature’s concern with people’s subjective justice judgments (rather than normative or objective determinants of fairness), there has been relatively little systematic work on subjective inﬂuences on justice judgments (cf. Barsky & Kaplan, 2007; Blader, 2007; Heuer, Blumenthal, Douglas, & Weinblatt, 1999; Skitka & Mullen, 2002). We argue that social emotions are likely to be a critical factor that shapes subjective justice judgments, determining what people regard as fair or unfair.
